Makabansa Basketball League Season 3: Nation-Building Through Basketball

The Makabansa Basketball League (MBL) continues to redefine what a local basketball league can be.

In its third season, Kings of the Court PH (KOTC) served as the league organizer, bringing together nearly 500 leaders and players from government institutions and private-sector organizations in a competition that goes far beyond wins and losses. With its guiding theme “Kapit-Bisig”, Season 3 highlighted unity, collaboration, and shared purpose—using basketball as a platform to strengthen relationships, build camaraderie, and promote nation-building.

Presented by Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and San Miguel Global Power, Makabansa Basketball League Season 3 once again delivered a high-level, professionally managed tournament that balanced elite competition with meaningful engagement.

A Championship Run Rooted in Unity

Season 3 culminated in an intense Finals showdown between Office of the President – Bagong Pilipinas and Meralco Linemen, with OP Bagong Pilipinas emerging as champion after a thrilling two-game series.

  • Champion: OP Bagong Pilipinas

  • Runner-Up: Meralco Linemen

  • Finals MVP: Kenneth de Vega

  • Season MVP (Executive): Khazim Mirza

  • Season MVP (Non-Executive): Mikhoel delos Santos

This championship also marked Sen. Sonny Angara’s second Makabansa title, further cementing the league’s reputation as a premier competition among leaders and professionals.

  • Every team is required to field at least two executives on the floor at all times

  • A separate set of awards recognizes executive players, highlighting their contributions alongside non-executive athletes

Season 3 featured 14 teams representing key institutions from the public and private sectors:

ACEN Chargers, AFP Cavaliers, BFP Firefighters, DENR Warriors, DHSUD Community Builders, DILG Visionaries, DOE Energizers, GenTri Generals, Meralco Linemen, MPTC Express, OP Bagong Pilipinas, OSG Patriots, PLDT Digitals, PNP Peacekeepers.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Noli Ayo and Makabansa President Jang Moreno, the league continues to grow with a clear mission and vision: to use sports as a catalyst for connection, leadership development, and service.
